Age is just a number and literary talk.

Yesterday was my 29th birthday and I thought it would be nice to write a post about how much my life has changed over the course of a year.  Writing and reading has become a major part of my life and I am thrilled at how much I have learned... all while meeting new people. If someone would have told me that I would have finished a novel, won a publishing deal, and would start recording audio books, I don't think I would have believed them.  Actually, I know I would not have.

Committing my time towards literary tasks has been very rewarding. Lately, I have been thinking a lot about my life and goals. There are so many artists that will live forever because they were able to leave a memorable mark in the world. I am not guaranteed another day or year on earth so I want to make sure that I am living up to my full potential and creating.

Reflecting is important and can sometimes feel like therapy.  To me, it helps me realize where I am at and where I am going. Having a starting point is important when big goals and dreams are in play. Being a writer is not easy work. We don't have writer caves anymore, well some do, like JK and Stephen King, but when you are starting off in the literary world, it is important to be out and about on the interwebz mingling, connecting, and most importantly, learning. I never imagined contributing and being involved in the literary world could be this fulfilling.

Last year, at this time, I was going to rehearsals for a musical. My life was full of theatrical tasks and there were times when I would be so physically and mentally drained that I could not accomplish anything extra. The vicious cycle of late night rehearsals, self-practice, weekend meetings, work calls, and people drama, wore me down to almost nothing. My new year resolution in 2012 was to do things that make me happy. Thus far, I have stuck to my guns on that one, which is something to be proud of! The past year has been crazy and fun, and I am looking forward to what this year will bring! Hopefully when I turn the big 3-0, I will be even more delighted with my progress!

Literary accomplishments:
1. wrote a novel
2. won a crazy contest
3. signed a publishing deal
4. met people that I truly consider my friends

A lot can be accomplished in one year.  Believe in yourself and follow your dreams. Seriously, shoot for the stars!

  1. I'm so glad you've dedicated your time to literary pursuits, otherwise we'd never met and that simply wouldn't do!
